When Tom brings home a friend to meet Laura, Amanda hopes this might finally be the suitor who can bring her daughter out of her reclusive shell. Vulnerable and tragic, The Glass Menagerie is one of Williams' most intimate and heartrending dramas and introduced him as one of the preeminent American playwrights of the 20th century. The songs of Jacques Brel are brought to life in this marvelous musical cabaret experience. The Point Loma Actors are honoring Jacques Brel, a legendary Belgian and French songwriter, by portraying and interpreting his musical compositions, which deal with satire, moral conviction, and fervid love. The musical is staged in an innovative manner with two women, two men, and one pianist. The Forced Marriage by Moliere (Aug-Sep 2009)

Picture
Directed by Hannah Ryan

The Forced Marriage
(1664), a one-act comedy by French playwright Moliere, is a hilarious play that stands the test of time with its irreverent take on the institution of marriage.  Our 53-year-old protagonist, Sganarelle, is ready to marry a saucy, young thing until various revelations make him rethink the sense of this plan.  We follow our anti-hero’s quest for enlightenment, from excitement to doubt to genuine dread, while he encounters a motley mix of philosophers, fortune-tellers and potential in-laws.  During his journey, the audience will delight in these larger than life characters and their enthusiastically ignorant claims about what it means to be married.  Lively fun for the whole family, The Forced Marriage is a slapstick farce that will have you nodding in agreement even as you howl with laughter! This play is about bringing people together in our society and it shows how far we have come since the days of Miss Daisy and Hoke.” Cochran continues, “The play takes place in the same town where my father grew up in Georgia and I know of the places and stories that Miss Daisy and Hoke talk about and it speaks to me in a very powerful way.” John H.
